You may be wondering, how can one build vocabulary and have fun in the process. Many English teachers have tried, but most of them end up falling flat on their backs. They may think that what they are trying to do is effective and fun but it really isn’t. Whatever they try to do, making students learn more vocabulary in an obviously academic setting will definitely not help in making the students want to learn more vocabulary. So what can you do to make learning more vocabulary a more interesting and fun experience for the student? I recently found a website that has a great answer to that question and the answer that they presented was to incorporate learning new vocabulary into playing games. The website listed several games which could be played in order to improve the vocabulary of the student. One such game is the very famous board game Scrabble but in order to make it more fun and more educational, the website suggests that you can try and have each player use the word in the sentence so that they will understand the meaning of the word completely. Another game is the Memory Match which involves matching words with their meanings. You don’t have to limit yourself to just word definitions because you can try and using different ways by which you can make the game more interesting such as using pictures for the definitions. Those are just some ways by which you can make learning vocabulary more interesting and fun.
